Bass Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; 6/26/08
Bass Buster Guide Service

Kentucky Lake:  Water Level at Ky Dam - 358.96  Surface Temperature - 82

Lake Barkley:  Water Level at Barkley Dam - 359.10  Surface Temperature - 84

Both lakes are at summer pool.  Although the bite early in the week on Monday for the Largemouth was somewhat slow due to flat water and blue skies, the bite the past three days has been very good.  The forecast for the weekend looks good except for a chance of scattered thunderstorms on Saturday.  Lots of White Bass are coming in to the cleaning stations and I have observed a number of jumps on the main lake on the flats off the river and creek channels.  Mayflies are hatching in big numbers and Bluegill are gorging on them, especially early and late in the day around overhanging trees.  The fishing is good folks...now is the time to be on your favorite summer pattern.

Largemouth Bass:  Largemouth Bass are being taken on the ledges on the main lake and around the mouths of the bays.  These fish are taking deep diving crankbaits, Carolina rigged creature baits, Texas rigged large worms, jigs and big spoons.  Some Largemouth are also being taken in shallow water near grass beds and wood cover as they are feeding on schools of fry.  These fish are hitting topwater lures early and late in the day and Texas rigged small creature baits and worms and deadsticked worms during the day.

Smallmouth Bass:  Smallmouth are being taken on the main lake ledges on Carolina rigged creature baits and jigs.  I have not had any reports yet on the night Smallmouth fishing but it should be time for these summer night feeders to be taking large dark colored spinnerbaits, tube jigs and jigs on rocky main lake points and first secondary points in the bays.

Some of the productive lures reported this week are:  Lucky Craft sammy in ghost pearl lemon, Zoom hornry toad in green pumpkin pearl, Norman DD22 in white and canary, Rapala DT 16 in parrot and bluegill, Hook Some Bass baby brush hounds and Charmer Timber Pups in green pumpkin and watermelon/purple, Mad Dog jigs in crawfish, Charmer 10.5 inch worms in plum and Strike King sexy spoons in shad patterns.

White Bass:  White Bass are being taken on the flats adjacent to the old river channels and old creek channels on the main lake.  These fish are being taken on inline spinners and small spoons fished vertically near bottom.  White Bass are also now being taken on the surface in jumps in these areas by casting inline spinners and small crankbaits into the surface feeding schools.

Bluegill:  Bluegill are being taken around mayfly hatches early and late in the day.  One can find these hatches around overhanging trees and around some docks.  Crickets and worms fished under bobbers are taking these fish.

Catfish:  Catfish are being taken along the old river channels in 20-30 ft of water by fishing with cut baits, yellowtail, leeches and shrimp fished on bottom rigs.

If you are in need of a bass guide for some fun bass fishing, tournament preparation, lake familiarization or technique instruction, don't hesitate to give me a call or drop me an email.  Now is a great time to learn how to locate and fish the ledges.  I have the following dates available for booking in June, July and August:

June:  Sorry I am booked up.

July:  8, 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30

August:  Still plenty of dates available...call me for booking.

If you have not booked your fall date(s) you should do so soon or you may not be able to get the date(s) you want.
