MATT STROBEL AND TYSON SHOOT TAKE THE WIN!
Kinkaid Lake, May 12, 2007, by
Earl Sigley

At the fourth event of the year you couldn’t ask for a nicer day to fish. A cool morning temperature of 62 degrees to start the day off at 6:00 am with a light fog on the water. Water temperature of 68 degrees to start and ended with 75 degrees at the end of the tournament at 3:00 pm. With heavy boat traffic the main lake would have been a rough place to fish. Before 10:00 am I noticed that people were looking for places to park and this parking lot at Kinkaid Lake is huge. This has to be one of the busiest lakes in Southern Illinois . Even that did not keep the fish from biting Twenty-one teams weighed in 39 fish weighing a total of 118.13 pounds, and average of 3.02 pounds per fish. Great job Guys!!!!

First place team of Matt Strobel and Tyson Shoot had a five fish limit that weighed in at 20.41 pounds. The team reported catching their fish on a black and blue 3/8 ounce Lunker Lure Ultimate Jig in three to twenty foot of water, one keeper was caught on a frog. The team caught a total of nine keepers throughout the day culling out their small fish. They fished main lake point and moved into the back of coves and continued to catch fish. The team earned plaques and $1073 for the win and entering the option pot for $120 the team earned checks totaling $1193. The team is sponsored by SNS Guide Service, and Asphalt Maintenance.

The second place team of Rick Byrnes and Chuck Spradley caught four fish weighting in at 14.32 lbs. The team reported they pre-fished and found some fish on beds. They decided just to go fishing until the sun got up and caught three fish by 8:00 am and then moved to the bedded fish at 11:00 and the boat traffic had the spots had muddied up so they moved back to the Ava end of the lake and caught their fish on Lucky Craft BDS2 crank baits and spinner baits in five foot of water. The team earned plaques and $656 for second place and entering the option pot worth $72 the team took home checks totaling $728. The team is sponsored by Lucky Craft, Bass Cat Boats, Mercury Outboards, Lowrance and Izorline.
