Fishers of Men Central Illinois

Regional Qualifier

Clinton Lake

The fifth and final tournament of the season took place this past weekend on Clinton Lake. The Friday night pre-tournament meeting was held at the First Christian Church in downtown Clinton with an awesome display of BBQ from Black Kettle. They are competition BBQ’ers and it is good. We had nine pounds of beef brisket and nine pounds of what is called high on the hog (three parts of the hog). They also make their own award winning sauce which was generously donated and we would like to thank them for their generosity. Along with the BBQ sandwiches we also had some baked beans and potato salad with cookies, lemon delight, and dirt pudding for dessert. Wow! Everyone was satisfied with this feast.

We have had a wonderful season with several people making decisions to follow Jesus and many who rededicated their lives to the Lord. Amen!

1st place Mark Vos & Daniel Ruedi

Saturday was supposed to be hot and humid with very little wind. It seems someone had prayed Friday night that the weather would be good to us and that we would be blessed with a bountiful catch. Well I am sure that every angler that was on the lake Saturday couldn’t help but be amazed at the beautiful weather. It was supposed to be 95 degrees with a heat index of 109 but instead it was 82 with a nice breeze of about 10 to 15 mph. God hears the prayers of His people. Now comes the bountiful catch part. Out of 23 teams that went out in search of a winning bag of fish 9 teams brought back a limit of 5 bass but it was the team of Mark Vos from White Heath and Daniel Ruedi from Champaign who would best the field by more than four pounds with a limit weighing 16.72lbs. Mark and Daniel were fishing main lake rock in 10-13 feet of water catching one of their keepers on a lethal weapon swim jig and the other four fishing the drop shot with a roboworm. Daniel told us that they needed to cull one of their smaller fish so he prayed “God we really need to cull this fish”. He said a turtle surfaced and he threw his bait where the turtle was and caught a four pound largemouth. Another prayer answered. Mark and Daniel earned $1,068 and received First Place Plaques and they also received the Big Bass Plaque for catching the largest fish in the tournament with a largemouth weighing 5.62 lbs. That is not all, Mark and Daniel also finished the season as the top finishing Adult/Junior team and they received plaques to commemorate this accomplishment. Mark and Daniel finished in ninth place in the year end points race and they have qualified to fish the Midwest Regional Championship on the Detroit River September 19th and 20th where over $35,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded including a fully rigged 2009 Triton TR-186 bass boat with a 150 HP Mercury Motor. Mark is sponsored by Powell Rods, Lethal Weapon Jigs, Roboworm soft plastics, and Under Armour fishing apparel. Daniel is sponsored by Berkley and Lethal Weapon Jigs.

Second place was the team of Brett McCully and  the nine year old sub Max Evans for Cecil Dickson with five fish weighing 12.42 lbs with the second largest bass of the day weighing 5.20 lbs. They received $873.50 for their efforts.

Third Place was the team of Brad Lutz and Kyle Danhausen with five fish weighing 11.92 lbs. They received $529.50 for their efforts.

Fourth Place and the final money spot was the team of Travis Boley and John McKinney with five fish weighing 11.91 lbs earning them $354.00 plus $700 for being our 2008 Division Points Champions. They will receive jackets and plaques from the National office to commemorate this accomplishment. They also are automatically eligible to compete in the 2008-2009 National Championship in Shreveport Louisiana on the Red River in March. Travis also caught the biggest bass of the 2008 season with a largemouth bass weighing 5.75 lbs and will receive a plaque to commemorate this accomplishment. Congratulations Travis and John.

The award for the Big Bag of the 2008 season goes to the team of Jesse and Anthony Lopez with a limit they caught in May that weighed 19.13 lbs. They will receive plaques to commemorate this accomplishment.

The award for the top finishing Male / Female team goes to Tim and Heather Rivest and they will receive a plaque to commemorate this accomplishment. They finished 6th overall in the year end points and qualified to fish the Midwest Regional Championships in September.
